Electrical Wireless Technology
Wireless technology has revolutionized the way the world communicates. With wireless forms of telecommunications, users communicate with each other without the use of wires, cables, or other formats that connect the users. The distance between users varies according to the application used and may be as little as a few feet or millions of miles, such as with satellite communication systems. There are many devices used to facilitate wireless communication and technology continues to advance. Wireless technology is advantageous as it enables users who may otherwise be unable to communicate an opportunity to correspond with one another.
History of Wireless Technology
The history of wireless technology is varied, but dates back to 1880, when Charles Sumner Tainter and Alexander Graham Bell invented the photophone. Also known as the radiophone, the photophone was an early device that used a light beam to transmit sound from a headset to a receiver. The photophone was the earliest known example of a cellular phone and the first successful wireless phone call took place on April 1, 1880. Bell and Tainter experimented with transmitting sound waves over light beams and electromagnetic waves.
Important to both Bell and Tainter's work were the electromagnetic and radio spectrums. Electromagnetic refers to electric currents and magnetic fields, while radio waves refer to a specific type of electromagnetic radiation that features wavelengths longer than infrared light. Radio waves are used to broadcast various signals. Electromagnetic and radio waves were invaluable to Bell and Tainter's work and were key to developing modern wireless technologies.
The Different Types of Wireless Communications
There are different types of wireless communications and as technology continues to advance, it is expected that the future of mobile and wireless devices will continue to evolve. The type or mode of wireless communications pertains to the manner in which data is transmitted wirelessly from one sender to a receiver. Popular modes or types of wireless communication include radio, microwave, and infrared, short-range communication. Microwave communication provides a longer signal than infrared and is used for communications taking place over long distances.
Applications of Wireless Technology
Wireless technology uses a variety of different applications or devices in order to send signals. Some of the most widely recognized wireless applications include cellular or mobile telephones, wireless data communications, Bluetooth, and GPS. Undoubtedly, cellular or mobile phones are the most widely recognized forms of wireless technology. Mobile phones utilize radio waves in order to transmit signals. Another popular form of wireless technology is Wi-Fi or wireless fidelity. Wi-Fi enables users to connect to the Internet without being connected by wires or cables and allows users to operate devices on the network. Wi-Fi users may operate fax machines, printers, computers, laptops, music players, and televisions without using wires or cables.

Wireless technology has quickly spread from social communication and is revolutionizing numerous fields. From medicine and agriculture to robotics and transportation, wireless technologies are revolutionizing the way people work. As wireless communication can send information over long distances, its use in various industries is potentially unlimited. Many industries utilize various technologies for the purpose of research and experimentation. As satellites are a form of wireless technology, the use of satellites in various industries is vast. Satellites can transmit data easily and efficiently and ensure that businesses conduct their affairs in an efficient manner.
